Sustainable Groundwater Planning (SGMA)
Current Status
From September to December 2016 the Aromas Water District's Board of Directors received a series of staff reports outlining a range of options to comply with the State's Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA). Options ranged from "do nothing" to forming a Groundwater Sustainability Agency (GSA) with neighboring water agencies. On Dec 31, 2016 the Pajaro Valley Water Management Agency (PVWMA) filed an application for an "Alternative" plan which covers the vast majority of our District's boundaries. If approved the need for our District to form a separate GSA appears to be moot. Therefore we are awaiting the results of the state's review of PVWMA's application. It is expected to take several months for the State's review. If PVWMA's application is denied, our District would have six months to (re)consider forming a GSA.
